Current City Projects:
All construction projects are subject to a permitting process and review from city staff before being processed through the City of Auburn Plan Commission. All projects are subject to following the city's Unified Development Ordinance.

Timeline: Completion 2025
Contractor: Crosby Excavating, Inc.
Description: The Auburn Fire Department will be expanding its training facility at Fire Station 2 in 2025. The addition to the training facility will allow firefighters from across Northeast Indiana to prepare for hazardous materials events including those with semi-tractor trailers, railcars and other scenarios. The addition will also include a training area simulating a house with a walk out basement.

Tenants: Papa John's, Hot Head Burittos, Jersey Mike's Subs and one additional storefront available.
Description: The four-tenant strip center at the corner of Seventh Street and Fulton Street is home to Papa Johns, and Hot Head Burritos. Jersey Mike's Subs will be opening in the spring of 2026 and one additional storefront remains in the structure. The remaining space can be built out to suit.

Timeline: Construction to begin in 2025
Description: Watson Estate is a newly approved 131 lot subdivision on the city’s west side, west of Interstate 69. Located on the south side of Lenora Lane the subdivision will be built in three phases with the first phase consisting of 43 new homes.

Timeline: Est. Completion 2026
Description: The Auburn Development Group will be reconstructing the historic Auburn Hotel at the corner of South Main Street and Ninth Street in downtown Auburn. The development group will take pride in recreating the structure to resemble its historic façade. The four-story structure will include retail/commercial opportunities on the first floor, apartments on the second and third floors and two penthouse suites on the fourth floor. A parking lot dedicated to the building will be constructed on the west side of the property.

Description: Mike’s Car Wash founded in Fort Wayne in 1948 will be opening its Auburn location at the corner of Smaltz Way and 7th Street home to the former Taylor Rental. Mike’s currently has 41 locations in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. The Auburn location will feature 10 vacuum stations, wash packages, a dealership program, bulk discounts, and a fleet program.

Description: Dutch Bros will open its first Auburn, Indiana location in 2026. The company specializing in coffee and other specialized drinks opened its first location a pushcart in Grants Pass, Oregon in 1992.
Completed Projects - 2025
Timeline: Opened December 2024
Description: A full-service car wash utilizing 100% softened, purified water to ensure no hard water spots. Auburn’s newest car wash will feature a variety of wash options for patrons. The location will feature free high-performance vacuums at ten distinctive canopy covered stations. Self-serve interior cleaning kits and mat washers are located on site and available for purchase. The Auburn location will feature Express, Deluxe, Premier and VIP was options with unlimited wash specials available.

Timeline: Opened January 2025
Description: The long time Auburn Dairy Queen received a makeover with its new store, which was completed in the first quarter of 2025. The fast-food restaurant was updated with a new design and features an updated drive-thru on the west side of the building. Other improvements to the parcel include an updated parking and drives, which provides a more defined traffic circulation and separation from adjacent properties. Landscaping has been added to the property to break up the pavement areas.

Description: Construction on ProFed Credit Union’s new Auburn location began in third quarter 2024. The new 3,500 sq. ft. branch on on West Seventh Street will be a full service location featuring two video teller machines/ATMs on the premises. ProFed prides itself in community banking offering a full line of services for Auburn residents. Since 1933 ProFed has grown to serve nine northeast Indiana counties with a total of 13 branches.
Timeline: Opened March 2025
Description: A second Dollar General is now open on the city’s east side at the corner of S.R. 8 and C.R. 35. The new 10,000 square foot DG Market gives residents living on the city’s east side an option to buy grocery items including fresh fruits and vegetables. The store includes an expanded cooler selection.

Description: One of Auburn’s oldest parks is undergoing a $2 million transformation with funding from the American Rescue Plan and Hoosier Enduring Legacy Program funds. Park renovations include nearly a mile of walking trails, renovated baseball diamond, new bathrooms and picnic shelter, pickleball courts, centralized stage area and more. Additional improvements will be completed in Phase 2 of the project in 2026 and beyond.

Timeline: Open November 1, 2025
Description: The restaurant chain Sonic returns to Auburn, Indiana after closing a prior restaurant in 2010. The new restaurant is mainly a drive-thru restaurant with seating outside and a small indoor seating area. The restaurant is part of the redevelopment of the former Taylor Rental location at Smaltz Drive.

Timeline: Dedicated November, 11, 2025
Description: The DeKalb Veterans Memorial features six limestone pillars, which will feature the names of servicemen and women from DeKalb County. The six pillars represent each of the branches of the U.S. military. The memorial also features an American Flag and POW/MIA flag in the center along with a plague recognizing contributors to the project and the Auburn American Legion Post 97. The names of the service men and women will be etched on the stones next spring when the weather is warmer.
