Code Enforcement
The Code Enforcement Department is a vital initiative developed by the City of Auburn in 2024 to address concerns related to unsafe, unhealthy, or unsightly conditions in our neighborhoods and throughout the entire community. By addressing and rectifying issues that impact the well-being of our neighborhoods, we contribute to the overall improvement of the living experience for everyone in the City of Auburn. We want to ensure that our community remains a safe, healthy, and visually appealing place to live.
Code Violations
We are dedicated to addressing code violations or 'public nuisances' that adversely affect neighborhoods and, consequently, property values within the city. By prioritizing education and voluntary compliance, our Code Enforcement team collaborates with residents, neighborhood associations, businesses, and other City Departments to cultivate a vibrant and exceptional living environment in Auburn. By fostering a culture of cooperation, we strive to ensure that the community continues to be an outstanding place to live, work, and play.
Auburn Code of Ordinances (City Code).
Code enforcement operates as a proactive and complaint-based division. Potential violations can be reported to the Code Enforcement Officer. All complaints must include the address of the reported violation and the complainant’s name, address, and contact information or you can leave an anonymous tip via phone.
All received complaints are handled on a first come, first served basis. Property owners found to be in violation of code are contacted by the Code Enforcement Officer and/or the Police Department, and given a deadline by which the violation(s) must be corrected.
Not all regulations listed in the City Code of Ordinances are enforced by the code enforcement officer. Some complaints are enforced by the Auburn Police Department and matters of public safety should be reported to them. Issues pertaining to interior or exterior conditions of a structure are regulated and enforced by the Building and Planning Department.
To file a complaint with the Auburn Building and Planning Department complete the city's 2025 Complaint Form and email it to bpd@ci.auburn.in.us
