City of Auburn Recognizes First Responders for Exceptional Service
On October 7th, 21 members of the Auburn Police Department, four members of the Auburn Fire
Department and staff from DeKalb County Central Communications were recognized by Mayor Dave Clark
with Letters of Commendation for their quick and coordinated response to a major incident that took
place on the evening of September 24th.
That night, things were changing fast, and our first responders had to think on their feet. They
stayed focused, worked seamlessly across departments, and handled a very tense situation with the
utmost professionalism. Thanks to their quick actions and dedication, the incident was brought
under control before it could pose any further risk to the community.
From the moment the first 911 calls came in, dispatchers managed communications and coordinated
units with focus and composure. Auburn Police officers secured the scene and protected nearby
residents, while members of the Auburn Fire Department provided critical support to ensure
everyone’s
safety. Each person involved showed what teamwork and commitment to the community looks like.
Retired Common Council Member Denny Ketzenberger shared his appreciation, saying,
“I would like to commend and thank the Auburn Police, Fire Departments, Central Communications, and
other agencies for their immediate response that controlled a firearm discharge situation. With the
large crowd at the Fair, it could have become potentially catastrophic, resulting in possible
injury to many people. The Police and Fire Departments’ quick response to any and all situations
provides a sense of security for the citizens of Auburn. Thank you for your dedication and
professionalism.”
“The badge our officers and firefighters wear is not just part of the uniform, it’s a promise. A
promise to
protect, serve, and to step forward when others step back. On the evening of September 24th, they
lived up to that promise in every sense of the word. Their courage, professionalism, and teamwork
are what keep Auburn safe.”
The City of Auburn extends its thanks to everyone who played a role that evening, including the
dispatchers and support staff who worked diligently behind the scenes. Their dedication and steady
leadership represents the very best of public service. We’d like to also give a huge thanks to Mad
Anthony’s for opening their doors to fairgoers and giving everyone a safe place to wait things out.
“This community is fortunate to have men and women who don’t just wear a badge; they carry its
meaning with pride and integrity every single day. On behalf of the city, thank you for your
service,
your courage, and your commitment to the citizens of Auburn.”
These men and women face challenges every single day. Unfortunately, they don’t always receive the
recognition they truly deserve. Too often, their hard work and sacrifices go unnoticed because
they’re
out there doing their jobs quietly, without expecting praise. But behind every call they answer,
there’s a story of courage and commitment to keeping our community safe. Taking the time to
acknowledge and thank them reminds them that their efforts matter and that this community stands
behind them
Dave Clark, Mayor
