AUBURN, Ind. -- With winter weather on its way in the coming months the Auburn Water Department (AWD) would like to remind customers to protect their water meter and supply piping from freezing during frigid winter temperatures.
Residents are asked to:
- Insulate hose faucets to keep the cold air away. Use faucet covers or place an insulated glove/towel over it and cover with a plastic bag and tape.
- Unhook all garden hoses.
- Repair broken windows and keep garage doors closed.
- Install insulating products (i.e. pipe insulation, heat tape) in unheated areas.
- Run a trickle of water at a faucet to prevent freeze-ups.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW:
AWD is not responsible for damage to the water meter or supply piping due to freeze-up. Frozen meter charges (starting at $363) are applied to the customer's account.
