AUBURN, Ind. – A group of philanthropic teens began a campaign on Tuesday to update and add new drinking fountain stations at several of Auburn’s city parks.
Junior Auburn Main Street, an affiliate of Auburn Main Street, is comprised of local high school students who are looking to give back to the community they call home.
The group began a month-long crowdfunding campaign on Tuesday to raise $17,500, which they can leverage for an additional $17,500 from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.
“We all have enjoyed utilizing everything the parks have to offer with our friends and family and agreed that it would be beneficial to update the water fountains to help ensure other visit longer and explore more of our wonderful community. With your help we will add and update accessible water stations across the community to upgrade the community experiences at our wonderful parks,” the group stated in a news release.
The new water fountains include bottle refill stations allowing everyone to have access to drinking water.
The new water fountains would be installed at the Auburn Skate Park, Thomas Park, Smith Park, Memorial Park, Eckhart Park office, Rieke Park Lodge, Rieke north ball diamond and Rieke south ball diamond.
If the group raises more than $35,000, the remaining money will be used for additional park improvements.
Donations can be made online at: https://www.patronicity.com/project/community_water_fountain_fund. The fundraising goal must be reached by 7 p.m. June 22.
