AUBURN – Criminal Justice and Psychology students at DeKalb High School recently had the opportunity to train with members of the Auburn Police Department.
Chief Cory Heffelfinger, Lieutenant Martin McCoy and retired officer Mark Stump worked with students last week as they prepare for the CTE
Criminal Justice Competition hosted by Ivy Tech Community College in Fort Wayne, April 28.
To prepare for the competition the officers delivered a one-day seminar via Multiple Interactive Learning Objectives (MILO) simulation training. The police training program allows students to witness different scenarios firsthand. Each scenario is projected onto a screen in front of the students who attempt to take down the criminals in each scenario.
Students will participate in physical fitness and agility tests, marksmanship tests via the MIO simulation system, a general knowledge exam and a problem-solving scenario team competition as part of the event.
According to a press release from the school many students commented how appreciative they were to have the ability to practice skills with the support and guidance of the Auburn Police Department.
