Mayor declares Feb. 20-25 Tri Kappa Week

Tri Kappa Proclamation 2-21-23Thursday, February 23, 2023

AUBURN – Mayor Mike Ley declared Feb. 20-25 Tri Kappa Week after the reading and signing of a proclamation during the Feb. 21 Auburn Common Council meeting.

Several members of the Auburn Tri Kappa chapter were on hand Tuesday night for the signing of the proclamation. Those representatives included: Amanda McGrew, Kassie Gerig, Jenny Caylor, Jami Jarrett and Kristin Lightner.

2023 marks the 112th year of the philanthropic organization’s existence. The local chapter supports many organizations locally and nationally. Local projects include outreach programs for children and families with special needs, annual scholarship awards to DeKalb High School students, annual scholastic honor ceremony recognizing outstanding DeKalb High School students and more.

The local organization annually supports DeKalb County Pink Out during the third weekend of May.

In addition to supporting local projects, the organization supports many statewide projects. Tri Kappa was one of the first organizations to contribute to The James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children. Since its inception in 1922, over $1 million has been given to Riley Hospital for Children through state Tri Kappa projects and local gifts. Tri Kappa also supports the Ronald McDonald House.

Each year the local chapters and state Tri Kappa chapters give over $1.5 million to its endeavors of charity, culture, and education.

The cultural program of Tri Kappa has been a strong supporter of Hoosier Salon since its inception in 1926 and maintains the Tri Kappa Art Collection on permanent loan to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
