AUBURN – Emily Prosser, a lifelong Democrat was sworn-in during Tuesday night’s Auburn Common Council
meeting after the passing of 28-year council member Mike Walter.
Prosser will take over were Walter left off representing the residents of District 5. In an election year she was appointed to the seat during a Democratic caucus.
Prosser’s seat will be up for election this year. She will be one of five residents vying for the seat in the Primary Election on May 2. She will be challenged by fellow Democrat Jessica Harty. Republicans seeking the seat include Thomas Peet II, Stuart Wilson and Donald Winsley.
Prosser, who has three grown children, has lived in District 5 since 1997, in the house where her mother was raised. She is a recruiting specialists with Pro Resources Staffing Services of Auburn.
Prosser told The Star newspaper that she comes from, “a long line of Democrats” noting her grandmother was active in the election process for many years. Prosser has been active in the DeKalb County Democratic Party since 2017.
She was joined Tuesday night by her family during the swearing-in ceremony.
Walter passed away Jan. 28 at the age of 76.
