Keep fire hydrants clear from snow

AUBURN, Ind. – With the first major winter storm of the season in the forecast for Friday, January 12 and Saturday, January 13 the City of Auburn is encouraging residents to drive with care and leave with extra time when heading to your destination.

The National Weather Service Northern Indiana has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Steuben County and those counties located along the Indiana and Michigan boarder. The forecast for Auburn and DeKalb County calls for 65% chance of four plus inches of snow beginning early Friday morning.

Wind gusts of 40-50 mph is predicted for Friday and Saturday with winds diminishing by Saturday night. The snowstorm will be followed by an artic blast beginning Sunday and lasting through next week.

The Auburn Fire Department reminds residents to keep snow clear of fire hydrants in case of emergencies. The fire department encourages residents to shovel out the area around fire hydrants around their homes.

The Auburn Street Department encourages residents to utilize their driveways when possible, to allow for easy clearing of city streets.
